A Tip for Getting up on Two Skis

I know the name of this blog is all about getting up on one ski, but I just had to share a tip about getting up on two.

Before I learned the deep water start on a slalom ski, I got pretty good at getting up on two skis.

And I have a really good tip to share. Surprisingly, nobody ever tells you this when they are trying to teach you to get up, but it makes it really easy.

I found this tip on a single YouTube video. The instructor was somebody named Lane Dawg Bowers.

He said this: when you are waiting in the water for the boat to start pulling, put your knees together and have your feet wide.

That’s it! But remarkably it really works.

Without doing this, you have to concentrate on keeping your skis parallel. And as soon as the boat starts to pull you, your skis could come apart causing you to lose your balance.

But if you put your knees together so that they are touching and have your feet wide, you don’t have to think about keeping your skis parallel. It just happens naturally. The position of your knees and feet make a nice stable triangle. And if you just do this, getting up is effortless.

One other thing to remember is that when you finally stand up, try not to bend over at the waist. This is the mistkae that a lot of beginners make the first time they get up, and it makes them fall right away.
