I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been a skimpy bathing suit kind of person.

And more so when I’m waterskiing. I really don’t want to be worrying about whether my suit is hiking up or not.

Some of my friends wear neoprene shorts when the weather is a little cool, but I wanted something I could wear even in hot weather.

I discovered the answer: board shorts. These are shorts that are made out of really light weight, water shedding material. As the name implies, I think they were designed to be worn by surfers.

I’ve seen a lot of common vendors who sell a version of board shorts, such as Lands End, etc. But at a lot of these sites, the sizes in women’s shorts only go up to 11. Seriously? 11?

I bought a pair in my size (14) but they were still too tight.

Then I discovered Board Shorts World. They go up to my size and beyond, and if that’s still too small, you can order them custom made.

They have them in a lot of different fabrics, but I went with basic black.

I’ve been using them all summer and I really like them. They close with velcro which I thought would be a problem. Women’s bathing suits are made out of things like lycra and spandex, which snags really easily. Just sitting on the edge of a pool that doesn’t have a vinyl lining and snag your suit.

But as long as I’m carefuly, the velcro closure is ok. The hook part of the velcro is on the side of the shorts facing out, so it is less likely to snag.

And I like that these shorts have a pocket, which I use to hold gloves.

You can tell that nobody on their staff really knows about websites. They have pictures that are a high resolution and take forever to load. I’m sure their sales would go way up if their home page actually showed the shorts for sale instead of you having to hunt in the menu. And you can tell nobody knows about Search Engine Optimization because a website that’s 100% geared to board shorts should not be so hard to find in the search engine results. But other than that, this is a great website.
